Newspaper Indagation

‘Success in the space one occupies in the newpaper. Success is one day’s insolence.’

~ Elias Canetti

I love this quote from the German writer and Nobel Prize winner for Literature Elias Canetti!

And IF you have never looked for your ancestors in an historic newspaper during the course of your family history studies – you AND your research are missing out!

For it is within a newspaper that an ancestor can reveal themselves not only within the context of their social history but their name in print can also shine a light on family relationships, their place of abode, where they worked, or even the legal scrapes when they found themselves in bother – including proceedings in the criminal courts, a notice of bankruptcy or if they wound up in a debtor’s prison or were subject to a coroner’s inquest.

With the rapid prominence of newspaper digitisation – they remain a vital resource for every social historian and ancestral sleuth.

Although I undertake the location, and research of newspaper records on the instructions of a client – I usually require a commission of a minimum of three (3) hours for these studies and which may include document transcription and copies of the newspaper(s) used for the purposes of research.

However, as every research commission is as unique as the person who is requesting it – our informal chat by way of my no-obligation initial consultation will ensure that my time perusing a newspaper or several on your behalf is productive for both you and I.
