‘If you don’t recount your family history, it will be lost. Honour your own stories and tell them too.
The tales may not seem very important, but they are what binds families and makes each of us who we are.’
~ Madeleine L’Engle
Is there a mystery, or a riddle or even an absurdity within those gnarled branches and fallen leaves of your family history tree?
Are you intrigued or perplexed about your ancestors?
Perhaps you have one family ancestor you would die know more about or there is another branch of your family that you know little of?
Although I have been ‘properly’ researching the history of my family since 2004; my interest in the gnarled branches and fallen leaves of my family tree began in the early teenage years and with access to the local repositories and archives throughout Yorkshire and beyond – I love working with those who wish to solve the mysteries of their family history.
The archives I haunt with frequency in and around Yorkshire and beyond include just SOME of the following:
YORK:
The Borthwick Institute
York Explore and Archives
Research Room of York Family History Society
YORKSHIRE:
Hull History Centre
The Treasure House Beverley
North Yorkshire Archives
Scarborough Library
West Yorkshire History Centre
SCOTLAND:
National Records of Scotland Edinburgh
The City Archives Mitchell Library Glasgow
National Library of Scotland Edinburgh
ELSEWHERE:
The National Archives Richmond
London Metropolitan Archives
Norfolk Record Office
Although I undertake the research of family history on the instructions of a client – I usually require a commission of a minimum of five (5) hours for the study of any such material and which may include document transcription and photographic images.
However, as every research commission is as unique as the person who is requesting it – our informal chat by way of my no-obligation initial consultation will ensure that my time researching your family history is productive for both you and I.
