Grave Hunting

‘Personally I have no bone to pick with graveyards, I take the air there willingly, perhaps more willingly than elsewhere, when take the air I must.’

~ Samuel Beckett

I love, love, LOVE graveyards!

If I’m not in search of a missing ancestor or researching another life long lost to history or poring over the details on a newly discovered and often indecipherable certificate of death or trawling through the parish records in search of a burial entry – I’ll be wandering among the tombstones somewhere!

Being able to locate the final resting place of those from my research endeavours has always been an important task and an unsuccessful search is disappointing as the final piece of the jigsaw remains missing.

The graveyards and cemeteries I haunt with frequency in and around Yorkshire and beyond include just SOME of the following:

YORK:

All churchyards within the City of York including:

Parish Church of St Stephen’s Acomb

Dringhouses Cemetery

York Cemetery

Fulford Cemetery

YORKSHIRE:

Undercliffe Cemetery Bradford

Beckett Street Cemetery Leeds

Killingbeck Cemetery Leeds

New Malton Cemetery

Parish Church of St Mary’s Scarborough

Dean’s Road and Manor Road Cemetery Scarborough

SCOTLAND:

The Necropolis Glasgow

Ramshorn Graveyard Glasgow

Greyfriars Kirkyard Edinburgh

Dean Cemetery Edinburgh

LONDON:

Kensal Green Cemetery

Brompton Cemetery

Highgate Cemetery

Nunhead Cemetery

Although I have a vast portfolio of cemetery and graveyard images in my collection – I undertake the research with the use of parish records and newspapers to locate and photograph a grave for clients.

In the absence of a marked grave I can also research, locate and photograph the surrounding vicinity in which an ancestor rests.

I am also happy to undertake crematoria research including the crematoriums at York, Octon and Scarborough.

However, as every research commission is as unique as the person who is requesting it – our informal chat by way of my no-obligation initial consultation will ensure that my time spent among the dead is productive for both you and I.
